What To Look For, Why, and Where To Find the Data on The Web

3. Educational Attainment

Often directly related to income and inversely related to poverty levels, lack of education or illiteracy is an important barrier to communications and accessing Extension materials (including those that are web-based). The high school drop out rate is another relevant variable. A high percentage of children in private school may indicate a general lack of support for public education in the community.

Key variables

• Population 25 years and over; percent with less than a 9th grade education
• Population 25 to 34 years - percent with bachelor's degree or higher
• Population enrolled in elementary or high school - percent in private school
