Chesapeake Bay Commission

Description: The Chesapeake Bay Commission is a tri-state legislative commission which advises the General Assemblies of Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania in cooperatively managing the Chesapeake Bay. Since 1980, the Commission has been a catalyst for a number of important advances in the Chesapeake Bay Program and the states by developing and pursuing initiatives related to fisheries management, toxics reduction, land use, agricultural nutrient management, natural resource protection and nutrient-load reduction, among others.

Chesapeake Bay Foundation

Description: The Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF) is the largest conservation organization dedicated solely to saving the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Our motto, Save the Bay, defines the organization's mission and commitment to reducing pollution, improving fisheries, and protecting and restoring natural resources such as wetlands, forests, and underwater grasses.

Department of Natural Resources
Critical Areas Commission, http://www.dnr.state.md.us/criticalarea/index.html

Description: The Critical Area Act, passed in 1984, was significant and far-reaching, and marked the first time that the State and local governments jointly addressed the impacts of land development on habitat and aquatic resources. The law identified the "Critical Area" as all land within 1,000 feet of the Mean High Water Line of tidal waters or the landward edge of tidal wetlands and all waters of and lands under the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries.

Interstate Commission on the Potomac River Basin

Description: The Interstate Commission on the Potomac River Basin (ICPRB) is an interstate compact commission established by Congress in 1940 to help the Potomac basin states and the federal government to enhance, protect, and conserve the water and associated land resources of the Potomac River basin through regional and interstate cooperation.

Potomac Watershed Partnership
Potomac Watershed Partnership, http://www.potomacwatershed.net/index.html

Description: The Potomac Watershed Partnership is a large-scale restoration and stewardship project focused on the Potomac River watershed. Its mission is to create a collaborative effort among federal, state, and local partners to restore the health of the land and waters of the Potomac River Basin. This will enhance the quality of life and overall health of the Chesapeake Bay, the nation's largest estuary.
